Karatsu Kunchi
Karatsu Kunchi is the autumn festival of Karatsu Shrine held on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of November every year. Fourteen huge lacquered floats (some dating well over 100yrs) are pulled by teams around the town. The festival is legendary and not-to-be-missed for anyone wanting a truly memorable Japanese experience.


 

 

Karatsu Castl
arious historical exhibits are displayed in the castle including artifacts and weapons from the last days of the Tokugawa shogunate. The top floor provides spectacular views of Karatsu Bay and Niji no Matsubara (pine grove).

The Takatori House
Built by the Takatori family, who made their fortune in coal mining, this beautifully preserved outstanding traditional residence features a private noh stage and exquisitely painted sliding doors.
